Why go

Why go to Bodrum

The ancient city of Halicarnassus gave the world the word mausoleum and the historian Herodotus. Today Bodrum is something different: the summer playground of Istanbul society, with each bay on the peninsula carrying its own personality. Yalıkavak is the yachting capital, Türkbükü and Göltürkbükü are for beach clubs and late dinners, Gündoğan is calm and family-friendly, and Bodrum town itself, below the Crusader castle, is lively and historic.

The season runs from late spring into October, when the sea is warm and the crowds thin. For the wider country, see our Türkiye luxury vacation guide.

Getting there, including private

Fly to Istanbul nonstop from a dozen-plus US cities with Turkish Airlines, then connect to Milas–Bodrum airport in about an hour and a quarter. In summer there are also seasonal flights from several European hubs. Private jets use the airport's general aviation facilities, and a helicopter can save time to the far side of the peninsula.

Many guests arrive by sea. Yalıkavak Marina takes superyachts and is the hub for charters along the Turquoise Coast; read our guides to superyacht charter and marinas for superyachts.
