The Mukaab is the giant cube at the center of New Murabba, a new downtown planned for northwest Riyadh. It is one of the boldest ideas of Saudi Vision 2030, and its timetable is now being set in phases.

At a glance
New Murabba was announced in 2023 as a modern downtown for Riyadh: a walkable district of homes, offices, hotels, shops, a museum, a technology and design university, a multipurpose theater and more than 80 entertainment and culture venues, all within a short walk or ride of each other.
Its architecture draws on the Najdi style of central Arabia, and green space and walking routes are planned throughout. It is part of the wider growth of the capital under Saudi Vision 2030.
Mukaab
The Mukaab, Arabic for cube, is planned as one of the largest built structures in the world, its facade patterned on Najdi geometry. Inside, an immersive dome would hold a tower, hotels, homes, shops and attractions using digital and holographic technology.
Its scale is easiest to grasp by comparison: the cube's footprint would hold many city blocks, and its interior is designed as a self-contained district with its own streets, gardens and venues, connected to metro and road links serving the rest of New Murabba.
Site preparation and excavation began in 2024. With the foundations in place, the Mukaab itself is paused while its next phase is planned, and the New Murabba district now looks to completion by 2040.

New Murabba sits in the north of Riyadh, the direction of much of the city's growth, close to the planned King Salman International Airport and the Expo 2030 site.
