Frank Gehry's cluster of cones and blocks will be the largest Guggenheim anywhere, devoted to modern and contemporary art. Abu Dhabi's Department of Culture and Tourism has announced opening day as December 11, 2026.

The museums sit within walking distance of one another along the Saadiyat waterfront. Start early at the Louvre, when the light through the dome is at its best, take lunch at one of the museum restaurants, and spend the afternoon at the Zayed National Museum or with the dinosaurs at the Natural History Museum. Evenings are ideal for teamLab Phenomena.

Abu Dhabi set out its plan for a cultural district on Saadiyat in the mid-2000s, inviting some of the world's best architects to design its museums. The Louvre opened first in 2017, followed by teamLab Phenomena in 2025 and two national museums at the end of 2025. The Guggenheim completes the original vision, with Frank Gehry's design among the last major works of his career.
