Fujairah Luxury Resorts and the East Coast

Fujairah is the UAE's only emirate set wholly on the Gulf of Oman, and its luxury resorts sit between rugged mountains and clear blue water. For a beach vacation with diving, wadis and heritage, the east coast is a rewarding change of pace from Dubai.

Why go

Why go to Fujairah

Fujairah faces east, across the Gulf of Oman toward the Indian Ocean. The Hajar Mountains rise straight behind its beaches, which gives the emirate a landscape unlike anywhere else in the country: jagged peaks, green wadis, date farms and long sandy bays with coral reefs close to shore. Waters here are among the clearest in the UAE, and the diving and snorkeling around Snoopy Island and Dibba Rock are a highlight.

Fujairah is also a place of history and of the future. It has the UAE's oldest known mosque at Al Bidya and a restored fort that has guarded the coast for centuries, and it is home to the Port of Fujairah, one of the great energy and shipping hubs of the world. The emirate is led by the Al Sharqi family; see our page on the Al Sharqi family. For the wider country, see our UAE guide.

Best time to visit

Best time to visit and getting there

October to April brings warm, calm seas and comfortable days for hiking. Summer is hot and humid, but the sea is warm and the mountains offer shade in the wadis. There are no nonstop flights from the US to Fujairah: fly nonstop to Dubai on Emirates, then drive about 90 minutes on the scenic highway through the mountains. Fujairah International Airport serves regional flights and private aircraft; see private jet charter and helicopter transfers.

Fujairah is also on the Etihad Rail network, whose passenger trains now link Fujairah with Abu Dhabi and Dubai; see future travel and trains.

The Fujairah 2040 plan and property

Fujairah's development plan focuses on the port and energy, tourism and the environment, with new resorts, an upgraded corniche and better connections by road and rail; see Fujairah 2040. Beachfront residences at resorts such as the Emaar development on the Al Aqah coast attract buyers seeking a weekend home away from the city.
