Dubai Mall Plaza and Hotel: What We Know About Emaar's Latest Teaser

Emaar has offered a first glimpse of a planned Dubai Mall Plaza and Hotel at the foot of the Burj Khalifa. Details are scarce, but the teaser is a reminder of why Downtown Dubai remains the city's most watched address for shoppers, travelers and buyers alike.

What Emaar has shown so far

On October 15, the team behind the Dubai Mall gave the city something new to talk about. That day, Emaar's founder, Mohamed Alabbar, shared a short video on Instagram introducing a planned "Dubai Mall Plaza and Hotel." The clip shows a broad plaza with the Burj Khalifa rising behind it, a line of lights set into the ground, models walking it like a runway, and guests gathered around a glowing circular structure whose purpose has not been explained.

That is, for now, the whole of the official picture. No opening date has been given beyond "coming soon," and neither the size of the plaza nor the scale of the hotel has been revealed. Time Out Dubai suggests the project may form part of the AED 1.5 billion Dubai Mall expansion first announced in 2024, which promised about 240 new luxury retail and dining outlets, though Emaar has not confirmed the link. We will update readers when the developer shares more.

Luxury shopping in Dubai

Luxury shopping in Dubai already starts here

Even before anything new arrives, the Dubai Mall is among the essential things to do in Dubai, and it is often described as the world's busiest mall. Fashion Avenue gathers the great fashion and jewelry houses in a single wing, while an aquarium and an ice rink keep younger visitors happy between boutiques. Recent additions include The District, with more than 60 shops and restaurants, and a new Exhibition Centre. Our guide to the region's great malls and souks puts it in context alongside Dubai's gold souk and the best addresses in Riyadh, Doha and beyond.

Step outside at dusk and the setting does the rest. The Dubai Fountain performs on the Burj Lake through the evening, and the observation decks of the Burj Khalifa look down over the whole of Downtown. Book the sunset slot ahead; it is the most requested time of day. For dinner, several of the city's most celebrated kitchens are a short drive away, as our guide to the finest restaurants in the Middle East shows.

Staying among the best

Staying among the best luxury hotels in Dubai

Downtown is an easy base for a first visit, with the mall, the fountain and the tower all within a short walk. The Armani Hotel Dubai inside the Burj Khalifa is closed for a refresh and plans to reopen in 2027, but several excellent alternatives stand close by. For the full picture, area by area, see our guide to the best luxury hotels in Dubai.

Staying within walking distance changes the rhythm of a visit. You can shop in the cool of the morning, retreat to the pool through the warmest hours, and return for the fountain shows after dark without ever calling a car.

Downtown Dubai for buyers: luxury property near the Dubai Mall

For investors, news like this tends to reinforce what the neighborhood already offers. Downtown Dubai was master-planned by Emaar, and its apartments beside the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Mall have long drawn buyers looking for steady city rentals and a globally recognized address. Foreigners can buy freehold here, and property from AED 2 million (about $545,000) can qualify an owner for a UAE golden visa. Those weighing Emaar properties or other luxury property in Dubai will find freehold areas, fees and the buying process explained in our Dubai Luxury Real Estate investment guide, and the city's hotel-branded homes on our page about branded residences.
